This little work and its predecessor, “ROLLO LEARNING TO TALK,” have been written on this principle.

이 작은 책과 그 전작인 “롤로 말하기 배우기”는 이러한 원칙에 따라 쓰여졌습니다.

Parents find it very difficult to employ little children.

부모는 어린아이들을 고용하는 것이 매우 어렵다고 생각한다.

“Mother, what shall I do?” and sometimes even, “Mother, what shall I do after I have done this?” are heard so often that they sometimes exhaust even maternal patience.

“어머니, 제가 어떻게 해야 할까요?” 그리고 때로는 “어머니, 이 일을 하고 나면 제가 어떻게 해야 할까요?”라는 말을 너무 자주 들어서 어머니의 인내심마저 소진될 때도 있습니다.

These little volumes will, we hope, in some cases, provide an answer to the questions.

The writer has endeavored to make them such that children would take an interest in reading them to themselves, and to their younger brothers and sisters, and in repeating them to one another.

저자는 아이들이 스스로 읽고, 동생들에게 읽어주고, 서로에게 반복해서 읽어주는 데 흥미를 느끼도록 이 책들을 만들려고 노력했습니다.

The difficulty with most books intended for children just learning to read, is that the writers make so much effort to confine themselves to words of one syllable, that the style is quaint and uninteresting, and often far more unintelligible than the usual language would be.

읽기를 막 배우기 시작하는 어린이를 위해 쓰인 대부분의 책의 어려움은 저자들이 한 음절 단어에만 국한하려고 너무 애쓴 나머지 문체가 촌스럽고 재미없으며, 일반적인 언어보다 훨씬 더 이해하기 어렵다는 것입니다.

The author’s design here has been, first to interest the little reader, hoping, by this interest, to allure him on to the encounter of the difficulties in the language, and to the conquest of them.
