Rollo's Philosophy [Air]

One pleasant morning, very early in the spring, Rollo's cousin Lucy came to call for Rollo to go on an expedition, which they had planned the day before.

어느 화창한 아침, 이른 봄에 롤로의 사촌 루시가 전날 계획했던 탐험에 롤로를 부르러 왔습니다.

It was near the end of March, and the snow had become so consolidated by the warm sun in the days, and the hard frosts at night, that it would bear the children to walk upon it.

때는 3월 말경이었는데, 낮에는 따뜻한 햇볕에 눈이 단단하게 굳어지고 밤에는 서리가 내려 아이들이 그 위를 걸어 다닐 수 있을 정도였습니다.

The children called it the crust; but it was not, strictly speaking, a crust, for the snow was compact and solid, not merely upon the top, but nearly throughout the whole mass, down to the ground.

아이들은 그것을 껍질이라 불렀지만, 엄밀히 말하면 껍질은 아니었습니다. 눈은 윗부분뿐 아니라 거의 전체가 땅까지 단단하고 촘촘했기 때문입니다.

Rollo and Lucy were going to have an expedition upon the crust.

롤로와 루시는 지각 탐험을 하러 갈 예정이었다.

Rollo had a sled, and they were going to put upon the sled such things as they should need, and Rollo was to draw it, while Lucy and Nathan, Rollo's little brother, were to walk along by his side.

롤로는 썰매를 가지고 있었고, 그들은 필요한 물건들을 썰매에 싣고, 롤로는 썰매를 끌고, 루시와 롤로의 남동생 나단은 그의 옆에서 걸어가기로 했습니다.

Rollo's sled was ready at the back door, when Lucy came.

Lucy brought with her some provisions for a luncheon, in a basket.
