Cousin Lucy's Conversations

One day in summer, when Lucy was a very little girl, she was sitting in her rocking-chair, playing keep school.

어느 여름날, 루시가 아주 어렸을 때, 그녀는 흔들의자에 앉아 물장난을 하고 있었습니다.

She had placed several crickets and small chairs in a row for the children’s seats, and had been talking, in dialogue, for some time, pretending to hold conversations with her pupils.

그녀는 아이들이 앉을 자리로 귀뚜라미 몇 마리와 작은 의자들을 일렬로 놓고, 마치 제자들과 대화하는 것처럼 한동안 이야기를 나누고 있었다.

She heard one read and spell, and gave another directions about her writing; and she had quite a long talk with a third about the reason why she did not come to school earlier.

그녀는 한 사람이 읽고 쓰는 것을 듣고, 다른 사람에게는 글쓰기에 대한 지시를 내렸으며, 또 다른 사람과는 왜 더 일찍 학교에 오지 않았는지에 대해 꽤 오랫동안 이야기를 나누었습니다.

At last Lucy, seeing the kitten come into the room, and thinking that she should like to go and play with her, told the children that she thought it was time for school to be done.

마침내 루시는 새끼 고양이가 방으로 들어오는 것을 보고, 자기도 가서 놀고 싶어 할 것 같아서 아이들에게 학교가 끝날 시간이라고 말했습니다.

Royal, Lucy’s brother, had been sitting upon the steps at the front door, while Lucy was playing school; and just as she was thinking that it was time to dismiss the children, he happened to get up and come into the room.

루시의 오빠인 로열은 루시가 학교놀이를 하는 동안 현관 계단에 앉아 있었습니다. 루시가 아이들을 내보낼 시간이라고 생각하는 바로 그때, 그가 일어나 방으로 들어왔습니다.

Royal was about eleven years old.

When he found that Lucy was playing school, he stopped at the door a moment to listen.

“Now, children,” said Lucy, “it is time for the school to be dismissed; for I want to play with the kitten.”
